'Rehire James Gunn' Billboards Put Up Near Disneyland
After James Gunn’s exit from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 sparked a range of debate in Hollywood, the news of the movie being put on hold has caused a sense of dejection among the fans. With movie cast writing petitions to bring back Gunn on the project, the production house, Disney and Marvel stuck to their decision.
The protest against the production houses’ decision continued with a digital billboard recently being placed in Garden Grove, California, a few miles away from Disneyland in Anaheim. It read “Save the Galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3.”
This digital billboard was backed by a GoFundMe campaign which was able to raise almost $5,000 since launching last month. GOTG fans came together through this campaign who were agitated soon after Disney took the decision of firing James Gunn after his old, politically inclined tweets resurfaced again.
Giuseppe Cincinnato, a 29-year-old Ohio chef expressed is dejection and said they wanted to do more and show that their initiative was “not just all online outrage”. Cincinnato further added that Gunn was and must be appreciated for the artiste he has developed into and even if Disney won’t see the billboard, they wanted to let Gunn know how much they loved and supported him.
In their efforts to make the production houses hear their voice, the group even created a site RehireJamesGunn.com along with paying a company $4,000 to run the digital billboard until 25th November. Certain reports also suggested that if enough funds are collected the group will try to put up another billboard closer to the Disneyland.
While protests go on to bring back James Gunn with twitter war raging on his controversial tweets, the director himself seems to have moved on. The news of Warner Bros hiring him to work on the script for the sequel to Suicide Squad. And it may happen that Gunn ends up even directing the movie himself.
