NASA's InSight Sings Salman Khan's 'Selfie Song', Grabs A Selfie On Mars!
Hey Guys! Guess who’s singing Salman Khan’s song ‘selfie le le’? We’ll save you the trouble because you know you suck in the game of guessing. So, who sang it this time? It’s NASA’s spacecraft InSight that landed on the red planet on November 6th. We've told you about it, remember? Of course, you don’t!
It’s Okay, we’ll freshen up your minds… NASA’s InSight spacecraft made a perfect landing on Mars after travelling 458 kilometres from Earth. It’s on a two-year mission to dig and gather information about Mars from under the surface. Now you remember? Good!
Let’s get back to the latest info from InSight. The spacecraft just took a selfie before starting to get down to work. It used its robotic arm with a camera to click 11 images of itself which formed a mosaic showing its solar panels and a deck full of instruments. According to NASA, InSight took the selfie on December 6th.
NASA said in a statement released recently that the scientists also received their complete look of what the Lander’s “workspace” looks like – an approximately 14-by-7-foot crescent of terrain directly in front of the spacecraft. This image is a mosaic of 52 images the spacecraft captured from the surface.
In the coming few weeks, all the scientists and engineers involved in this project will determine where all those instruments should go within that workspace. After those are determined, the lander will get down to the job of digging the surface.
Stay tuned for more Martian news!
