Dream Girl: Ayushmann Khurrana's Comedy Pockets Rs 10 Crore On The Opening Day

Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest movie, Dream Girl just hit the theatres yesterday and is off to a great start.  Many predicted that this comedy movie will turn out to be Khurrana’s biggest opener in his career. And after the first day of screening, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed that Dream Girl has officially beaten the National Award-winning film Badhaai Ho (opened at Rs 7.35 crores), by opening at Rs 10.05 crores.

Khurrana is celebrating his 35th birthday today and Dream Girl’s opening day collection proves to be his biggest gift. The movie not just beat Khurrana’s film alone, but also managed to beat the many of the hit films released this year. It passed Uri: The Surgical Strike (Rs 8.02 crore), Luka Chuppi (Rs 8.01 crore)and Chichhore (Rs 7.32 crore).

According to many film gurus, this result was anticipated and less surprising since the trailer of Dream Girl garnered huge response right after it released online. Talking about the story of the movie, Ayushmann portrays a guy who has can impersonate a woman’s voice. Since he is going through a financial crisis, Ayushmann takes up the job of a call girl, Pooja. He’s too good in his job that soon men start falling in love with Pooja and want to marry her. Now, it’s obvious but this situation leads to chaos and turns into a laughter riot.

Earlier, film trade analyst Girish Johar talked to Hindustan Times about Dream Girl’s success. He said, “Ayushmann has been going through a perfect growth phase, he has been picking the right stories and is doing a different kind of storytelling. The best part about the film is that he is telling the story in a very clean, quirky, comical way, which an entire family can watch together. The audience loved the trailer and the expectations from the film are very high. It has the chances of being his highest opening film. The film can easily collect Rs 30 crore in its opening weekend if it opens at Rs 8 crore. And if it collects a double-digit figure of Rs 10 crore, it may even reach Rs 35 crore during the weekend.”

Girish further added Nushrat Bharucha was another strong point in the film, “Nushrat is a new young talent. She is a lucky star for the industry; all the films she has starred in have been hits. She has also picked up good films until now.”

Ayushamann’s recent releases have all been huge hits since Bareily Ki Barfi, followed by Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Andhadhun and Article 15. Andhadhun was the highest earner among all and earned Rs 456 crore worldwide and bagged Ayushmann a National Award.
